Promotion Requirements & Non-Privilege

8th GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY REQUIREMENTS

Participating in the promotion ceremony is a privilege for those students who have demonstrated academic achievement and exhibit good behavior. In order for students to participate in promotion ceremonies, the following requirements must be met.

 
1. A total of 6 points in each core class. These include English, Math, Science, History and PE.
2. Students must not have an F in any class during the 4th Quarter.
3. 8th grade students enrolled after the first week of school will meet with administration to go over promotion requirements.
4. Students dropped, then re-enrolled during the  academic school year will still need to meet the promotion requirements to participate in the ceremony
5. Any student with more than 1 out of school suspension will not be allowed to participate in the promotion ceremony.
6. A suspension during the last 6 weeks of school will cause a student to become ineligible to participate in the 8th grade promotion.
7. Students having more than 17 unexcused absences during the school year will not be allowed to participate in the promotion ceremony.
 
*Any student with serious disciplinary offenses may lose ceremony privileges.
 
Students who fail to meet the Mendota Junior High standard of 6 points will not participate in the graduation ceremony.  

 

6 Point Requirement

Students must acquire 6 points in each core class to be promoted to the following grade. These core classes include English, Math, Science, History, and PE. The 6 points must be acquired throughout the four quarters depending on the grades given. The point breakdown is as follows:

 

A – 4 points D – 1 point

B – 3 points F – 0 points

C – 2 points

Student C – Met 6-point requirement but received an F the 4th Qtr. This student would not participate in graduation ceremonies because the student received an F the 4th quarter.

Non-Privilege


To promote academic excellence in our school, we have developed high standards and expectations.  Students on the non-privilege list will not be allowed to participate in any school extracurricular activities or events (i.e. dances, field trips, athletic events, etc.). Students may be placed on the non-privilege list at any time during the school year.  A student on the list will remain on it until the end of the next reporting period.  Reporting periods include quarter grades, and progress grades. Students having one or more of the following criteria will be placed on the non-privilege list.


1. Grade point average lower than 2.0 (on a 4-point scale)
2. More than 3 referrals per quarter
3. Poor attendance (10 or more absences or tardies per quarter)
4. SARB attendance contract
5. Discipline issues
